"Always prioritize Love. Pride goes by the wayside. Once life on this earth is over, we have no more time for Love"
The meaning behind this original composition.
As you may already have read, I wrote a composition for a 23 piece Mambo Orchestra entitled "Deliverance (Mambo Hagilei). I want you all to know the meaning behind this work. The composition molded itself to be a musical chronical of the emotions we went through during my wife's health struggle in 2013. This work begins with a serious tone in the key of G minor. Very akin to how life-changing that day started in October of 2013. The Trumpet solo in G minor reminds me of how focused we were in getting a handle on the situation those first few days. The diagnosis is described by the orchestra with slamming chords as hard and cold as the news we got from the doctors. The next set of four bar repeats describe the series of adaptations my wife had to go through following neurosurgery including the loss of her short-term memory, inability to walk, and subsequent chemotherapy. Then after a year and a half, the orchestra sounds off her followup MRIs with two eighth notes as the timbal does a quick solo. Then, another two eighth notes are followed again by a quick timbal solo. The pattern repeats once more and the orchestra breaks as the last MRI reveals a change in prognosis.
At this instant, the piano goes acapella in G Major with the good news and four bars later the rhythm section and violin montuno (played by my good friend Adrienne Riofrio) join in.
The Tenor Saxes come in four bars after that and are quickly joined four bars later by the Alto Saxes. The trombones join in to sound out more of the good news. Finally the Trumpets seal the deal and complete a joyous soup of melodies as the whole orchestra rejoices. At this point, the chorus sings, "Mambo, Mambo Ha-GiLei les traigo yo" followed by a response from the entire orchestra.
The orchestra comes down and the Pianist, (Ahmed Alom Vega) does his amazing solo.
The orchestra begins to add section upon section to the melody as my wife experienced more mobility, more normality in life.
The song goes back to the beginning in G minor, the trumpet does its solo, and the orchestra ends with a break. This reversion back to minor is to remind us of what we learned throughout this family journey towards recovery: "Always prioritize Love. Pride goes by the wayside. Once life on this earth is over, we have no more time for Love"
Hagilei = A composite of my children's names.
You better believe they are dancin' knowing mama is going to be around.
